The behaviour chart serves as a visual tool to help Tutors, Department Supervisors, Head of Department, and Management quickly assess pupils’ learning behaviour without disrupting lessons.
Even the youngest pupils, including emergent readers, can easily understand the colour-coded system:
Positive behaviour is consistently encouraged, reinforced, and rewarded throughout Voxly Tuition. All children begin each day “On Track” and are motivated to remain there through praise, stickers, individual or group points, and other tangible rewards.
This system reinforces to children that all adults across the Tuition Centre deserve respect. Conversely, any staff member may apply sanctions as appropriate—whether during class time, breaks, lunchtime, or at dismissal—to promote the desired behaviours across the entire institute.
Children who fail to adhere to Tuition Centre rules will face the following consequences:
Step 1: First Warning
Step 2: Second Warning
Step 3: Third Warning
If a third warning is necessary, the child’s name is moved to “RED ALERT”.
Staff may exercise professional judgement and discretion regarding individual children who may require additional time away from their class to settle down, stop being distracted (or distracting others), and regain composure. The child in question will be expected to complete the same work as their class to the same standard. Tutoring staff will intermittently check to ensure compliance.
If inappropriate behaviour persists after the above steps:
This policy acknowledges Voxly Tuition’s legal duties under the Equality Act 2010, particularly in safeguarding all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Sanctions for inappropriate behaviour are applied in accordance with the Department for Education’s Guidance for Department Supervisors, Head of Department, and school staff.
As per DfE guidance, staff have the power to correct and discipline pupils for misbehaviour occurring within the institute and, in some circumstances, outside it.
Creating a supportive and affirming learning environment involves:
Voxly Tuition plays a vital role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of both pupils and staff. We develop approaches tailored to the needs of our pupils, helping them settle into routines and comply with procedures—thereby enabling staff to remain calm, composed, and effective in their work.
We are under a statutory duty to promote the welfare of our pupils, which includes:
Central to this is engaging staff and pupils in experiences and activities that build resilience, self-reflection, and empathy.
Our approach to good mental health and behaviour forms part of a consistent whole-institute strategy, promoting:
All policies are consistent with our duties under the Equality Act 2010.
If the need arises to apply Positive Handling to a pupil who is violent, throwing a tantrum, or displaying seriously inappropriate behaviours—such as refusal, defiance, confrontation, opposition, intimidation, or disrespect—staff are expected to follow the Tuition Centre’s Positive Handling Policy and Procedures. These are shared and demonstrated during annual staff induction and inset sessions.
Staff are strongly advised to seek support from another adult when calming a child who is aggressive, resistant, violent, or disruptive and potentially posing harm to themselves or others.
Before any physical intervention is used, other strategies must be attempted to defuse the situation. Positive handling should only be used when absolutely necessary.
Staff may choose not to make a physical intervention but can still reduce risks by:
When faced with a child who has lost control, is angry, or highly distressed, staff members must:
Management expects all staff to apply this behaviour policy consistently and rigorously in all situations warranting it—within or outside of class—for the health, safety, and safeguarding of all children and staff.
The sharing of equipment is not permitted.
Pupils Must Not:
All equipment must be carefully cleaned and disinfected after each use across all sessions.
Toilets must be time-tabled for monitoring purposes.
Pupils Must:
Anyone—child or adult—found to be deliberately or intentionally spitting or coughing at or towards another person without taking the required precautions (covering the nose and mouth with a tissue or elbow) will be dealt with in accordance with this Behaviour Management Policy.
Such actions will be considered a deliberate act that compromises the health and safety of the Tuition Centre community.
